Water Damage
Water damage can occur at any time and can be caused by a number of things. Pipes break, water heaters wear out, plumbing backs up or a natural disaster can cause a flood. When water damage occurs it is important not to panic. The first thing to do is stop the water source and the next thing to do is call a water damage expert like Carpet Masters. We are there to help you in your time of need, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Below is a list of things you can do to minimize the effect of water damage, followed by a list of things to avoid doing.
DO
- Remove as much excess water as possible my mopping the area or using a wet/dry vac
- Wipe as much excess water from wood furniture as you can and remove tabletop lamps and other items from the furniture
- Turn the air conditioning on for maximum drying in the summer and open the windows in the winter
- Remove any artwork and paintings from the walls
- Remove any area rugs from the floor and hang to dry
- Remove wet upholstery cushions from the frame and prop them up to dry
- Place plastic or aluminum foil under any furniture legs that are not plastic
- Punch tiny holes in a sagging ceiling to relieve trapped water, place something underneath the holes beforehand to collect any trapped water.
- Stay out of rooms where the ceiling is sagging from retained water.
DON'T
- Panic
- Leave wet fabrics in place
- Leave magazines, books or other colored items on wet carpets or floors
- Use a regular vacuum to remove excess water
- Turn on electrical appliances while standing on wet carpets, floors or especially on wet concrete floors.
- Turn on ceiling fixtures if the ceiling is wet.
